I had rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder in 2001, in Medford, OR. A pain pump was inserted. It did not seem to help with the pain, which was considerable. I was instructed to remove it myself, but did not feel comfortable doing so, so went in to S. Or Orthopedic to have a nurse do it. That shoulder has since had extensive physical therapy and 2 manipulations under anesthesia for stiffness, but with little effect. The stiffness and discomfort are always factors in my activities and in my ability to sleep. Surgery on the other shoulder was successful--without a pain pump. So I know how things should feel.
