Head Injuries in Youth Sports

Last year, our team posted a blog discussing the initiative by the New York Giants in an attempt to help high schools improve the way they handled football-related head injuries. The chairman of the Giants, Steve Tisch, had made a $1.2 million dollar donation to the public high schools in the New York City area with the hopes of improving safety. This was due to the number of head injuries occurring in the sport and the long-lasting effects.

Over the course of the year, there have been numerous programs setup and even a movie coming out this Christmas called Concussion that shows the seriousness of head injuries in football and all sports. Head injuries are very serious and when this happens to someone involved in youth sports, it can have a long-term impact on the life of the injured.

Promoting safety in the world of youth sports has been an important issue to tackle and making sure proper equipment is provided is crucial. When it comes to youth sports, many feel that the impact is not nearly as great so injuries don’t happen as often. This is not necessarily true and concussions and other brain injuries are still a very real threat.
