Compounding problems

So that compounding pharmacy that has been linked to the tainted steroids that have sickened more than 250 people and killed some 20 with fungal meningitis? It seems they have a license to do business here in Oregon, but they have been under investigation by the Oregon Board of Pharmacy before the steroid issue even arose.

The Board had been looking into allegations that the pharmacy, New England Compounding Center, had been sending prescription drugs to Oregon facilities in bulk then filling out the prescription forms later. In Oregon the law states that compounders can only distribute medication in patient-specific amounts. The Board also contends the compounding pharmacy has not been forthcoming about its practices and has not been cooperating with its investigation. The Board is hoping to revoke New England Compounding Center’s Oregon license.

So far it seems the tainted steroids have not affected any patients in Oregon. Estimates of patients affected by the contaminated injections number around 14,000.
